Pumpkin Pie Milkshake
This weekend I’m working the International Horror and Science Fiction Film Festival. The IHSFFF is in its fifth year, and each year I’ve been the Director of Science Fiction Programming. This means I get to see the creme de la creme of the submitted films, pick two feature films and put together two short film programs. Hit the link above and come on out to see them.
This festival also means I’m in Tempe all day, running around and perilously close to a Jack in the Box restaurant. And this time of year Jack offers the Pumpkin Pie milkshake. I first encountered them one late night about four years ago while driving my neighbor Tom home from a club. (Really, it was research for the Trick Molloy stories, honest.)
Okay, so these things are great! Yes, they truly taste like pumpkin pie, which I love. (Pumpkin pie is good— true even the year I made it myself and forgot to put sugar into the recipe.) But these milkshakes, they are just fantastic. And thick. The one I had yesterday, I had to have been sucking on for 45 seconds before milkshake made it up through the straw. I literally had to stop and look and it was still an inch from my mouth.
Boy was the wait worth it. That milkshake ended up being my dinner, and I was good with it.
(In accord with FCT and FCC regulations, and in the interest of full disclosure, I affirm that I have received no promotional consideration for this blog entry, but if Jack in the Box wanted to send me some, that would work.)
