Timeshares: a new anthology!
Timeshares is a brand new anthology edited by Jean Rabe and Martin H. Greenberg. It’s organized around a frame story by Kevin J. Anderson. The theme is simple: Timeshares is a company that allows customers to vacation anywhere in time! It goes on sale in March, so you should find it in stores by the second.
My story is titled By Our Actions. When I got offered a slot in the book, as often happens, I started thinking about the whole situation turned inside out. In this case it was a question of not where folks would want to go, but where the company really couldn’t allow people to go. There are plenty of events that provoke strong emotional reactions. For me the obvious event at the top of that list was Passion Week, Jerusalem, around 28 AD. And, in the fine tradition of science fiction, once you open a door that allows you to examine tightly-held beliefs from another angle, the story really gets good.
Lots of other authors have stories in the book: Kevin J. Anderson, Robert E. Vardeman, Matthew P. Mayo, Greg Cox, Dean Legett,Annie Jones,Kelly Swails, Chris Pierson, James M. Ward, Jody Lynn Nye, Vicki Steger, Gene DeWeese, Patrick McGilligan, Steven Saus, C. A. Verstraete, Donald J. Bingle, Allister Timms and Linda P. Baker.
I’ve read Kevin’s story (we all did since it was the frame) and I heard Bob Vardeman read his story in Second Life. I also read mine in Second Life. Based on that sampling, and Jean Rabe’s assurance, this collection is a great mix of stories.
The link above goes to the DAW Books page for the antho. Looks like they’ll have it in epub and for the Kindle, too, when it’s released.
