This week in Hero…
Sunday was a bust for writing on the book. Soccer was early, which wiped out the early session, and then I was exhausted, which wiped out anything else. At least that’s true writing-wise. I did manage to make notes and run some dialogue, which helped set up the rest of the week.
Monday and Tuesday were very effective days, adding three chapters and over 7,500 words. We’re sitting at 43,851 as of Tuesday evening.
So far things are going very well. The morning walks to and from Starbucks (3 miles total) allow me time to think and especially run dialogue out loud. For some reason that helps me a lot. Over coffee I jot notes and have gotten good at finding the holes in the story and filling them. There will be more filling in a second draft, but it’s all holding together pretty tightly.
I do have one concern, however, and that’s that an emotionally critical scene should be happening at the halfway mark in the story, but probably won’t occur until the 60K word mark. It’s not a big worry. The book might run long, which would be okay, too. And I may be overstating the problem. We’ll see when I get there, I guess.
