It’s a nasty tale about a world where invincible conquerors, the Maeruunne visit every two centuries. The Maeruunne do not sleep, neither do they dream; so they come to the world for tribute: a hundred children through which the world’s dreams and nightmares will be channeled. The Maeruunne consume those dreams like narcotics.

There’s a problem for the Maeruunne this time. Two centuries ago they took a man’s twin brother. He’s spent two centuries planning for their return—and planning so they never will steal children again.
